Poems I wrote over the last couple of months but never took the time to transfer:
"You belong with all the wildflowers"
She said to me
"With all the wild and the free"
But freedom was too much for her to give
So she cracked her rifle and then found that she was running from me
She shot me down and caught me in the tall grass waiting below
Unable to see I'd always circled her since the day she began her hunt
Waiting to rest on her arm
The hard was done and fire was zero sum
But the wound baked quick under the sun
I never required a bullet or snare
But found one all the same
The hole in my chest whistles in the wind
A painful reminder

While the world sat still,
Nodding quietly
She took in the music and danced erratically in the center of the room
Atop unlevel brick and spill stains
Her hair was short but she flicked it around all the same
Her glasses fought with all their might to cling to her ears and never fell off
I think she knows pain and happiness better than most
Because only somebody who has been truly burned
Knows when she's found her salve and basks in it
Smiles and all

I think I was built to Go
The world slides under me like slick marble
And I'm a child racing through the kitchen against his mother's best wishes
I only leave more messes in my wake but I know full well
Life will call me back soon enough to make me clean them
She always has
So what use is there tiptoeing any longer?
My future is a roll of the dice and mine seem to be weighted
The decisions always seem to follow a pattern
A path
An oath
That they keep quietly
And I laugh on like the only member in the crowd who isn't in on the joke
Twiddling down the grassy plains while barley breathes in the wild
Whispering quietly
With a broken heart and tear-striped smile
Tomorrow awaits
