Things that I miss:
Sharing headphones with my childhood friends on the bus back home
I miss the ladies working the front desk looking at us like we were crazy when we'd walk through and take large, taxing swigs from the water fountains
I miss lying with one arm swishing figure eights in the water over one shoulder, leg swishing in the clear waters and proposing our questions together to the stars. And listening for answers but never looking down, as if if we listened hard enough we could hear the distant strangers answer
Sneaking out past stray dogs and patrol cars into public pools
Freestyling in the backyard with the sweetest little yellow lab
And wanting to punch somebody in the face because Trouble by Nevershoutnever was stuck on repeat on somebody's dumb playlist in the morning
And Christmas days spent sharing in the wealth of the neighborhood children/s collective bounty
Skateboarding around with equally lame skaters
I miss sitting in on skype calls with those friendly, lovely, kind girls whom we could call friend in another world and time
Breaking power outlets from rough-housing too much while the parents were at work
And the excitement of meeting people unlike anybody I'd met before, totally new and no traits borrowed
And thinking we had all the time in the world
