Coming into the summer of my junior year, I decided I wanted to truly remember my childhood. Not just know in my heart that overall it was decent just because I ended up alright, but actually remember it. All the places, events, names and faces. The way I felt when I held a certain person's hand, or when I met up with a friend for study group at the local Starbucks. Everything. So at first I tried to accomplish this by doing odd mental exercises.
Every night before bed, I would do my best to try and remember anything and everything I could and file it in my brain in chronological order. Starting from the earliest of my memories to... well not very far because the task was a tad bit to expansive. In the beginning it worked and I could begin to recall many other memories, getting to them in much the same way you can click your way through the suggestion bars on YouTube or link just about anything to Jesus in Wikipedia ( given enough clicks ). But as one might imagine, after a while it just got to be too tiring. There weren't enough hours in the night to keep adding and adding rail-cars onto this ever-growing train of thought. So, to fix this, I decided to take the weight of the task off of the feeble shoulders of my already faulty memory, and let technology handle it. From that point on, though I'd always had a distaste for lists and the like, I diligently worked to type out and list every memory as simply but meaningfully as I could in a list. And from there I noticed a certain gap of memory that fills the time frame spanning from the 2nd grade to the 8th... Why? I have no idea. It's not that I don't have any memory of any events at all, but rather that it is all VERY spotty. It's a bit troubling.
Getting frustrated with this, and being that I at times have trouble keeping committed to somewhat tedious or expansive tasks, I decided fetching those memories were for another time and moved on to what was happening in the present tense, and here is that list. It was like a sort of final attempt to hold onto and memorialize what was left of my childhood, considering there was plenty I had already lost.

Note that these will mean nothing to anyone else. I understand that. But to me they mean the world. Half of the things I want to write about at some point are nestled into this list (it's why there are check marks here and there- to denote which ones I've already covered)... I honestly couldn't tell you how many times to date I've just sat down and read through this list, reliving each and every little adventure that it entails... But it's numbering in the hundreds. It's how I keep sane sometimes when I feel like I'm losing control of things or direction in life. I get to look back at a chapter of my life that I truly filled to the brim with the quintessence of life. I mean really. I did this whole "life" thing right. The last piece of it says The End because well... I decided upon leaving for college that I would put an end to it. Because, of course this is self explanatory, but I'm stepping forth through a portal into a whole new world and will at the very least, need another list with open space to hold all the entries to come.
